Basics or not?

I’m having trouble deciding if I should start out writing tutorials that covers the basics of J2ME programming, or maybe even the basics of Java programming? Or if I should just refer readers to other tutorials on the internet that covers those basics, and go straight to writing about the more advanced stuff?

Now I know I don’t have any readers right now, but I’m kinda hoping that’ll change soon, and then maybe someone will be able to give me some feedback on this issue.

I’ve found this tutorial to be helpful:

Though, I’d take a step back and ask what it is you’re trying to do. Are you trying to learn programming in general? If so, I’d recommend checking out either Python or PHP instead.

    http://www.python.org/
    http://www.php.net/

It also wouldn’t hurt to take some Computer Science classes if that is an option, as it will give you an introduction to some helpful programming practices.

Oh, and on the subject of blog readers, may I also suggest a LiveJournal? There are *lots* of people there, and it is a great networking tool. You can find me on LJ under the username “giza”.

Hihi. I appreciate the sentiment, but I think you’ve misunderstood what I meant.

I already know how to program in several languages, Java and PHP included, as well as Python, though I’m a bit rusty in that language. I’m not really sure how you got this idea that I was learning how to program, though.

Anyway, I was just curious if I should write tutorials dealing with the basics of Java and/or J2ME programming, or if I should just jump right into writing the more advanced stuff..

Hmm, I think that we just hit a language barrier. ;-) Looking at your original post, you wrote:

“I’m having trouble deciding if I should start out with tutorials that covers the basics of J2ME programming, or maybe even the basics of Java programming?”

I’ve seen almost that exact same question asked many times in other places, and I’ve interpreted it as “I’m trying to learn programming, where should I start?” In fact, I’ve personally been asked that question more times than I can count. :-P

Given the lack of context, I read that as though you were looking to *learn* how to program.

If there were other clues in your post that indicated otherwise, then I must have totally missed them. Sorry for that, and the resulting confusion. :-P

No problem. I guess it could be misunderstood quite easily.. Hmm.. Maybe I should change the wording a bit.. Yeah, I’m going to do that. ^^

Both your ways are fine. Getting basics into control give more confidence and sometimes energy to fight against wrong argument :D

Thank you for your comment. :)

I was looking through your blog yesterday, and I think I’m gonna have to mention some of your articles in my blog, because there’s some really nice stuff there. :)

I read similar article also named or not? | Programming – It’s a way of life, and it was completely different. Personally, I agree with you more, because this article makes a little bit more sense for me
